I have been running most of my life with my first race at age 11. I’ll be honest, I started running because I could not catch, kick or hit a ball. But boy was I fast and could run forever..After recreational running in elementary school, I ran cross country and track in junior high, high school and college. The 5000m was my favorite race, but I ran every event from the 400m and up when needed. After college, I competed in 5Ks and 10Ks until the birth of my first daughter. I then moved up to the marathon at age 30 and have been long-distance running ever since. In fact, my second daughter Caitlin competed as a fetus in the RI marathon in 1999 (I was 8 weeks pregnant). Since moving up to the marathon, I have competed all over the country including Boston, New York and Chicago but still have a particular fondness for my home marathon, White Rock Marathon in Dallas, where I ran my PR of 3:40 in 2001. As for my medical credentials, I have alphabet soup after my name: Marybeth Crane, MS, DPM, FACFAS, CWS. What that means is I have an undergraduate degree (BS) in Exercise Science/Athletic Training from Rhode Island College. A Masters degree (MS) in Biomedical Science from Barry University in Miami. And then finished with a doctorate in podiatric medicine (DPM) from Barry University in Miami. This was followed by a surgical internship and residency in foot and ankle surgery at Brown Universitys Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, RI. I am double board certified in foot …
